Joncol provided jockey Alain Cawley with the biggest success of his career in the Hennessy Gold Cup at Leopardstown.
Trained by Paul Nolan, the giant seven-year-old had finished third in the Lexus Chase at Christmas after looking the winner for a long way.Connections had stated he would be ridden with more restraint this time and Cawley pounced on Cooldine well after the last to deny last year’s RSA Chase winner by a neck in a thrilling finish.
Joncol is 5s from 8s with Stan James for the Ryanair after his last gasp success in the Hennessy Gold Cup at Leopardstown earlier today. Runner up Cooldine lost little in defeat and was trimmed from 14s to 12s for the Gold Cup and from 3s to 5/2 jt fav with Imperial Commander in market without the Big Two. Dunguib was cut from 4/5 to 4/6 for the Supreme Novices.

Joncol cut for Ryanair after Hennessy success
Joncol has been cut to 7/1 (from 10/1) by totesport for the Ryanair Chase at the Cheltenham Festival after battling to victory in the Hennessy Gold Cup at Leopardstown this afternoon.
Paul Nolan’s gelding got the better of a protracted tussle with Cooldine to score by a neck and the latter has been left unchanged at 14/1 by the sponsors for the totesport Cheltenham Gold Cup.
‘Cooldine’s run will have pleased his trainer immensely but he’s still got plenty to find before he can be seen as a true challenger to either Kauto Star or Denman in the totesport Cheltenham Gold Cup and he remains a 14/1 shot for the big race,’ said totesport spokesman George Primarolo.
Elsewhere on the card, Dunguib was very impressive when winning the Deloitte Novice Hurdle on the bridle and is now odds-on for the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle at Cheltenham at 4/5 (from evens) with totesport. Pittoni was trimmed to 14/1 (from 20/1) for the JCB Triumph Hurdle after taking the Spring Juvenile Hurdle whilst Citizen Vic was cut to 16/1 (from 40/1) for the RSA Chase after a pillar-to-post victory in the Dr PJ Moriarty Novice Chase.
Over at Musselburgh, Carlito Brigante further advertised his claims for the Triumph Hurdle with a smooth victory in the Scottish version and is now 7/1 (from 8/1) for the juvenile event at the Cheltenham Festival.
