Latest Cheltenham Betting Moves

Victor Chandler cut the Leopardstown Grade 1 Juvenile Hurdle winner Unaccompanied from 14s to 10/1 for the Triumph Hurdle and from 33s to 25/1 for the Supreme Novices’ following her impressive success.

Victor Chandler kept Finian’s Rainbow unchanged at 4/1 for the Arkle after his unsatisfactory success at Warwick.

Stan James have left Finian’s Rainbow unchanged as 7-2 favourite for the Irish Independent Arkle Novices’ Chase following his wide margin success in the Kingmaker Novices’ Chase.

Nicky Henderson’s gelding extended his unbeaten run over fences to three but was still being hounded by Kilmurry when that rival went wrong two fences out.
“Finian’s Rainbow did what he had to do in order to remain at the head of the Arkle market, but his jumping was not much more than adequate and in the end he gained a bloodless success. We saw nothing in the performance to justify a price cut for Cheltenham.”

Victor Chandler cut Oscars Well from 20s to 8/1 for the Neptune and from 14s to 10s for the Albert Bartlett after his cosy Leopardstown win earlier today.
Even money favourite Zaidpour is out to 12s for the Neptune from 9/1 and 10/1 from 7s for the Supreme.

Gardre Champetre Wins But Left Unchanged

Garde Champetre was left unchanged at 5/1 by Victorchandler.com for the Festival X Country race on the opening day of next month’s Cheltenham Festival. Runner up Lord Nellerie was cut from 25s into 20/1 for the same race.

Can Paul Nicholls Win The Gold Cup?

StanJames.com are today offering enhanced odds on Paul Nicholls to win the Cheltenham Gold Cup with any horse. The online firm are quoting 11/4 that Nicholls wins chasing’s Blue Riband event at Cheltenham with any one of his six potential runners.

Nicholls is the man in the Gold Cup, having won four of the last eleven renewals of the contest with three different horses, but even though Nicholls has six potential runners this year, including former Gold Cup winners Denman and Kauto Star, our odds compilers don’t fancy the champion trainer’s chances which is why they are prepared to offer such a generous price.”

Williams Happy With Diamond Harry

Nick Williams says he is more than Happy with Diamond Harry as he bids for the Cheltenham Gold Cup at the Cheltenham Festival.

This is what head of the owning syndicate  had to say;

“He’s fine and we’ve saved him for the race as he’s always better fresh, We thought about it (running again) after the Hennessy, but we soon concluded we wanted to save him so we are gearing him up for Cheltenham.  His training regime is being geared precisely for that.  We haven’t got anything like a racecourse gallop planned at the moment. It’s a thought and it’s something we have discussed, but Nick has got his own way of getting a horse ready.

He’s building up to the race and we’re keeping our fingers crossed.  I was at Kempton for the King George and thought Long Run was fantastic. He jumped well and was a worthy winner, though we understand Kauto Star wasn’t quite right.  It’s going to be a very competitive Gold Cup with lots of interesting horses in there. The betting recognises the chances of each horse and we go there with a chance as good as anybody.”

Latest Cheltenham Festival Betting

After a big day of racing on Saturday Bookmakers reacted by cutting many horses but eased out the Champion Hurdler as the Cheltenham Festival approached.

Binocular has been eased to 3/1 (from 11/4) at the head of the market for the Champion Hurdle and Oscar Whiskey cut to 11/1 (from 14/1) after the two Nicky Henderson-trained horses won their respective Champion Hurdle trials this afternoon.

Henderson Has Champion Hurdle Key

Oscar Whisky was undoubtedly the more impressive of the two in winning the Welsh Champion Hurdle at Ffos Las, barely coming off the bride to record an eight length victory. Binocular also won relatively easily at Sandown but failed to impress AP McCoy who was similarly downbeat after the horse won the same race twelve months ago.

“Although both Binocular and Oscar Whisky posted reasonably facile successes this afternoon, the former wasn’t as impressive as anticipated and this adds another dimension to what is already a fascinating renewal of the Champion Hurdle,” said totesport spokesman George Primarolo.

Medermit has been cut to 6/1 (from 10/1) for the Arkle after running out the game winner for the totepool Challengers Novices’ Chase by half a length from Captain Chris. The latter has been cut to 9/1 (from 12/1) for the Jewson Novices’ Chase at the Festival with Medermit similarly trimmed to 7/1 (from 9/1) for the same race.

Cheltenham Festival Betting Update, Monday 31 Jan

Paul Nolan has revealed that Noble Prince, a 12-1 chance (from 10)* with Paddy Power for the Arkle, will not run in the Arkle and will instead tackle the Jewson Novices’ Chase for which he is now 7-1f (from 8cf) with Paddy.

The Co Wexford trainer said: “Noble Prince is going for the Jewson and not for the Arkle and the step up in trip is what we’ve decided.

“I was very encouraged by his last run and I hope that better ground will suit. The last day we thought that he would go past Realt Dubh but that fellow rallied but I was happy that he improved from the five length gap between the two three weeks before.

“I would hope that he can use his speed better on better ground and that the step up in trip will help him avoid a flat spot in a race when the others quicken and he should be able to travel sweeter. I’ve always thought that he is a middle-distance horse.”

*Paddy has left Noble Prince in the Arkle betting at a longer price because he does still have an entry in the race and there is always the possibility that connections could still change their mind

Cheltenham Betting Update, Neptune Investments Novices’ Hurdle

Bobs Worth proved star of the show at Cheltenham on Saturday in the Neptune Investments Novices’ Hurdle Trial, however it has been the second-placed Rock On Ruby who has been the subject of support with William Hill and is now 8-1 from 10-1.

The five-timer bid was put to an end, when Paul Nicholls’ six-year-old made a mistake two-out before hanging left out of contention after the last and leaving the path clear for Bobs Worth to claim the Grade 2 honours.

The winning Henderson inmate was aided by the rail, and had the runner-up kept to a truer line, the conclusion may have been different.

Lucy Rhodes, spokeswoman for William Hill, said, ‘The margin of victory would have been significantly decreased had Rock On Ruby not hung after the final flight, and having been trimmed into 8-1 from 10s following overnight support, clearly some punters anticipate a closer finish in March’.
