War Of Attrition 25s for World Hurdle in market without Big Bucks

Former Gold Cup winner War Of Attrition was cut from 100/1 to 40/1 with Stan James for the Ladbrokes World Hurdle after his first success over the smaller obstacles for over six years at Gowran Park earlier this afternoon. The eleven-year-old was also introduced into the betting without Big Bucks at 25/1.

Karabak Hit Hard in World Hurdle Market

Reported by the Racing Post:

A “colossal rush of money” on Friday prompted bookmakers to take a chisel to Karabak’s odds of upsetting Big Buck’s in the Ladbrokes World Hurdle.

The Alan King-trained stayer was beaten by Big Buck’s when posting his own personal-best performance in last month’s Long Walk Hurdle, but that has not stopped punters piling into the 2009 Cheltenham Festival runner-up, who trades as short as 6-1 having started the day at 10-1.

Stan James originallycut Karabak to 7-1 from 10-1, but that turned out to be an insufficient reaction to the move and the firm later trimmed him to 6-1. However, a 10-1 to 7-1 cut was enough for Ladbrokes, whose spokesman Hayley O’Connor said: “A colossal rush of money for Karabak has driven him into 7-1, which now makes him second favourite for the World Hurdle.”

Trainer Henry de Bromhead’s announcement that Irish Independent Arkle Trophy favourite Sizing Europe could instead tackle the Seasons Holidays Queen Mother Champion Chase prompted William Hill to introduce him into that race’s market at 12-1.

William Hill also acted on the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle front, trimming Kempton winner Menorah to 11-1 from 12-1.

More immediately, Petit Robin is 11-4 from 3-1 with the sponsors for the Victor Chandler Chase on January 23, for which Cornas is 14-1 from 20-1.

Ruby Walsh 66/1 For Cheltenham Festival Clean Sweep

Boylesports make Ruby Walsh a 66/1 chance to win the four feature races, Smurfit Kappa Champion Hurdle, Seasons Holidays Queen Mother Champion Chase, Ladbrokes World Hurdle and totesport Cheltenham Gold Cup, at the Cheltenham Festival 2010.

Only the Champion Hurdle evaded Paul Nicholls’ stable jockey last season when he rode a record seven winners over the four days.

He was second in the race, aboard Celestial Halo, his likely ride this time around. Nicholls is 25/1 with Boylesports to win the ‘big four’ in March.

“Ruby and Paul are quite simply a dream team at the moment,” said Boylesports spokesman Leon Blanche. They have the best horses around and already look to have three of the Festival bankers in Master Minded, Big Buck’s and Kauto Star. Celestial Halo was only touched off in the Champion last year and it would be no surprise to see him go one better and power up the hill he clearly loves.”

Big Buck’s Goes Straight To Cheltenham

Andy Stewart is looking forward to seeing Big Buck’s attempt to retain his Ladbrokes World Hurdle crown. The highest-rated hurdler in training will go straight to Cheltenham after his win over Karabak and Diamond Harry in the rearranged Long Walk Hurdle at Newbury.

“We have decided to miss the Cleeve and go straight for the World Hurdle,” said Stewart. He is a strange horse. He doesn’t do a tap in front and he is never going to win by much further than the three or four lengths he won the other day. It was very testing ground and that that is the reason we are going to give him a little break. We gave him his flu injection yesterday so we’ll go back and see if we can retain the title.”

Paul Nicholls 33/1 for All Four Championship Races at 2010 Festival

Stan James are offering 33/1 that Paul Nicholls will train the winner of all four Championship races at the Cheltenham Festival. Given the talent in his stable this may be worth a look.

The Gold Cup, Champion Chase and World Hurdle look strong possibilities, but it is the Champion Hurdle that is the hard one, Celestial Halo looking the stable’s best bet.

Diamond Harry and Zaynar Cut for Cheltenham 2010

Diamond Harry put up a terrific performance to take the Timeform Betfair Racing Club ‘Fixed Brush’ Handicap Hurdle at Haydock under the steadier of 11st 12lb.

Timmy Murphy again elected to race wide and his mount always travelled with immense purpose. Still under a tight rein at the last, the Nick Williams-trained six-year-old cruised home by two and a half lengths from 3-1 favourite Burton Port at the rather rewarding odds of 9-2.

Stan James cut the impressive Diamond Harry from 14/1 to 8/1 for the World Hurdle and to 10/1 (from 14s) for the RSA Chase after a cracking weight-carrying performance at Haydock Park in the valuable 3m Handicap Hurdle.

Head of PR Charlie McCann:”Diamond Harry was only winnng off a mark of 149 but the manner of his win suggested he is a real threat to Big Bucks if connections decide to stay over timber. With Punchestowns due to make his chase debut at Newbury this week the RSA Chase could also be a very hot heat and trainer Nick Williams has a very difficult decision to make.”

Zaynar has been cut from 12/1 to 6/1 for the Champion Hurdle with Stan James.

Zaynar made an impressive return to action as he strolled home in the Coral Ascot Hurdle.

Off the track since winning the Triumph Hurdle in March, Nicky Henderson’s charge was sent off the 9-4 joint favourite in the hands of Andrew Tinkler, who was riding the four-year-old for the first time.

He barely had a moment of worry, sitting in behind early pacesetter Lough Derg before kicking on to take it up two flights from home.
